Dermatology/Laser Treatments

Laser treatments are effective to treat a wide variety of conditions and concerns including skin rejuvenation, scars and skin pigmentation

Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation (LASER) produces an intense beam of light of a particular wavelength with insignificant dispersion over a short distance. This property is used in dermatology to treat a variety of skin disorders.

The laser stimulates high-quality new tissue growth. Its cellular effects discourage scar tissue build up and can smooth and relax existing scarring, reducing redness for better cosmetic effect.

It is effective to differing degrees across several skin conditions such as acne, psoriasis and eczema, both in terms of reducing bouts and improving previous scarring.

There appears to be both anti-bacterial and anti-viral effects since both acne and the herpes simplex virus are effectively treated with laser therapy.

At 152 Harley Street, we use laser treatment to remove pigmented skin lesions. These lesions can be the product of excess melanin, liver spots, moles, blood or even exogenous pigments such as tattoos. During this process, the pigment in these lesions is targeted by the laser and works to reduce the appearance resulting in a much clearer complexion. Pigmented lesions are usually found and treated on the face and the backs of the hands.

Usually, a minimal number of treatments are required to effectively remove pigmented lesions.

Before undergoing any laser treatment, you will first have an in-depth consultation with one of our expert specialists. During this consultation, they will assess your specific needs, discuss your treatment goals, and recommend the best laser treatment for you. This consultation is crucial in ensuring that you receive a personalised treatment plan that is tailored to your individual needs and that you are fully informed about the treatment process, potential risks, and expected outcomes.

Laser treatment can be used to remove facial blood vessels and birthmarks. In order to remove blood vessels, a precision laser is used to target these sites, and it works to destroy the blood vessel allowing clients to enjoy their natural complexion, cleared from these visible blood vessels. Depending on the size of these blood vessels, multiple treatments may be required in order to ensure the vessel is completely removed. The cost of treatment will vary depending on how many sessions are required.

Birthmarks can be removed in a similar way. There are many different types of birthmarks, including blue birthmarks, which are visible as a result of blood collection underneath the skin’s surface.

Brown birthmarks are caused by deposits of skin pigment leading to an area of darker skin which is visible on the surface.

Red birthmarks, also known as haemangiomas, are evident as a result of an abnormal crowd of blood vessels and these can cause clients some discomfort leading to them desiring treatment.

Lasers can be used to break down excess pigment or a collection of blood vessels leading to the birthmarks fading. You may require multiple sessions to completely remove birthmarks as they may take time to completely break down depending on each individual client.

In the majority of cases, birthmarks do not return after laser treatments.

The cost of treatment will depend on the size of the birthmark and the number of treatments necessary and therefore the cost will be different for each client.

M22™ IPL Laser

The IPL (abbreviation of Intense Pulsed Light) laser works to rejuvenate the skin. These types of lasers combat many different skin concerns such as pigmentation, signs of ageing, scarring, redness, sun damage and small veins. These lasers work to stimulate collagen production, encouraging the skin to begin healing and repair any areas of the skin in which a firmer, brighter and more rejuvenated appearance is desired.

Following treatment, you should notice a much firmer and smoother appearance as well as the removal of any redness or pigmentation which you wanted to treat.

This treatment is minimally invasive and therefore requires minimal downtime and should not cause any significant discomfort.

To attain your desired result, multiple treatments may be necessary in order to fully revitalise the skin. Consequently, the treatment expenses will differ for each client, depending on the extent of the area being treated and the number of required treatments.

Eufoton Endolift®

The Endolift uses minimally invasive laser technology to combine skin rejuvenation, facial contouring and lifting. As we age, a gradual reduction in collagen and elastin fibres of the deeper tissue layers results in loose sagging skin, a loss of volume and a general aged appearance. This sagging of skin of the face, chin, neck and under the eyes can now be successfully tightened and lifted without the need for invasive surgery. The Endolift is used for lifting both the face and body areas.

The Endolift is a minimally invasive procedure that uses cutting-edge laser technology to tighten and lift sagging, aged skin. The effects reach both deep and superficial layers of the skin to stimulate collagen production whilst also reducing excess fatty tissue. Endolift provides a more advanced lift than fillers alone can achieve and can be considered to be the next step before clients choose to undergo invasive surgical facelift procedures.

During the procedure, specially designed, hair-thin optical fibres are inserted just under the surface of the skin into the hypodermis. These fibres deliver pre-set laser energy to create micro-tunnels within the treated area. The laser-induced selective heat applied during the procedure melts fat cells, which flow out of the microscopic entry holes. This causes immediate skin retraction, resulting in the tightening effect seen soon after treatment and drastically reducing the appearance of skin laxity. The laser procedure also triggers the stimulation of collagen production, meaning that the skin’s appearance will continue to improve for months after the treatment.

The lasers used in the treatment are highly customisable, which means that various areas can be treated simultaneously, and multiple problems can be addressed. The treatment is most commonly used across four zones of the face within which the neck, jowls and under the chin, nasolabial folds and lower eyelids are included. Each zone is treated separately and takes about 45 minutes to complete. In some cases, two treatment zones can be treated simultaneously. Endolift can also be beneficial for stubborn skin and fat accumulations in other areas of the body, such as the inner arm, abdomen, inner thigh, knee and ankle. It can be used to reduce the appearance of cellulite.

Pulsed Dye Laser (PDL)

PDL stands for “pulsed dye laser” and is a type of light therapy that stimulates rejuvenation of the skin by targeting the body’s natural ability to repair and rebuild damage from within.

PDL gets its name from the fact that the laser beam of light is generated using a dye. Seen as a long pulse of yellow to orange light, this wavelength is particularly well absorbed by haemoglobin, a substance naturally found within red blood cells and vessels. This makes it effective against vascular irregularities, such as broken capillaries, rosacea and spider veins.

The wavelength of PDL is more suited to target superficial vascular issues of the skin, as the laser does not penetrate to deeper tissue layers. Deeper vessels, typically 1.5mm in depth, as well as blue vessels, will not be as responsive to pulsed dye laser treatments. For these we recommend a combination approach of laser treatments and other vascular procedures.

Pulsed dye laser rejuvenates the skin, without compromising the upper layer of the skin (the epidermis) and with minimal downtime. PDL is suitable for men and women with superficial vascular issues, such as broken veins and rosacea. PDL photo rejuvenation treatments provide a quick and more gentle, long-term solution to even the skin tone and complexion of the body and face.

The time in which you will see results depends on what area is being treated and to what extent. We recommend waiting up to three months following a full course of treatment before final results are assessed.

EVLT

Endovenous laser therapy (EVLT) is an extremely popular treatment for varicose veins. EVLT involves the precise insertion of a very thin (less than one millimetre) laser fibre into the diseased veins under real-time ultrasound guidance, followed by the application of laser energy to heat and close the varicose veins. Over time the treated veins are absorbed by the body. This is an outpatient procedure, performed under local anaesthetic with resumption of normal activity within a few days.

EVLT is a successful treatment for a variety of vein concerns. Saphenous veins, common in the leg, respond particularly well to EVLT. EVLT can also be used to combat swelling and pain caused by varicose veins. EVLT usually takes under an hour to complete, and you can return home the same day.

EVLT has an extremely high success rate of 98% and therefore it is one of the most popular and most effective treatments for varicose veins.

PicoSure®

The PicoSure laser is an extremely effective and innovative laser which works to rejuvenate the skin. The PicoSure laser can target a variety of different skin concerns including stretch marks, acne scarring, scarring, sun damage and wrinkles. The PicoSure laser can also be used to effectively remove tattoos.

The PicoSure laser is a very innovative method of skin rejuvenation and can treat a wide variety of conditions without the use of surgical procedures. The PicoSure laser is very popular due to its minimal downtime and side effects when compared with surgical procedures done to achieve the same outcome. The PicoSure treatment is also very quick and will usually only take a maximum of 30 minutes to complete if there is a large area being treated.

When rejuvenating the skin, it is also important to ensure that in doing so, the skin is not being damaged during the process. The PicoSure laser is a very gentle treatment while it works to rejuvenate and resurface the skin. Instead of using direct intense heat like some other laser treatments, the PicoSure laser uses ultra-short pulses which lead to the production of waves in the dermis, encouraging production of collagen which will lead to tightening in the skin and aid rejuvenation. Results from the PicoSure laser are usually instant and you will see visable results immediately after your first treatment.

Doctor doing a laser treatment on the patient's face

"I went to see Dr. Goutos for laser treatment after a breast reduction. Over the course of a year, my scars drastically reduced in appearance and we were able to remove the redness as well. While the laser treatments were expensive, it was worth it as the scars are almost completely gone. I'm very happy with the results and would absolutely recommend."

"I had treatment for a port au wine stain with Dr Firas a couple a months ago. I have wanted to this for a long time as my birthmark affected my self-confidence. After visiting numerous different clinics I then came across Dr Firas. In my consultation he was extremely considerate and explained he would treat me. After very few laser sessions I achieved clearance of my port au wine stain something which I thought was not possible. He truly has changed my life. He always wants to help his patients and do what is best for his patients which is what stood about Dr Firas from other doctors. Hence why I am writing my story to recommend Dr Firas to any other client as he truly is a genius with lasers! In addition to this Dr Firas made me feel at ease when doing the treatments and I am over the moon with my results!"
