Scar Excision & Revision
We offer various types of scar surgery, which can improve both the look and feel of your scar(s). These techniques involve revision of a scar where we change the scar (e.g. make it smaller) or remove a scar and replace it with a better one. Surgical release of a scar can make a scar less red and tight and improve its appearance. Resurfacing of an area involves removing the old scar and maybe using a dermal template and your own skin (through a skin graft) to repair the area gaining a better result in how the area looks and feels.
Tissue expansion can also be a useful technique for treating larger areas of scarring. This technique involves insertion of a balloon type device beneath the normal skin surrounding the scar. The balloon is gradually inflated, or naturally inflates depending on the type of expander used – this stretches the surrounding normal skin which gives the surgeon more skin to cover the surface of your body where a larger area of scarring is removed.
