What is Radiology?
Radiology, also known as radiological medicine, is medical imaging using X-rays. It is often used to look at organs and structures in the body to check for any abnormalities. Doctors may also use radiology to make sure that a patient is healthy enough to undergo certain medical procedures.
The Cone Beam CT scanner at 152 Harley Street offers a high quality resolution image with superior levels of accuracy.
WHAT IS CONE BEAM CT SCANNING?
Like a conventional spiral CT scanner, the Cone Beam CT (CBCT) uses x-rays to produce 3D views of bony structures and tooth orientation. However, Cone Beam CT offers a very high resolution image with a greater level of accuracy, whilst using a lower dose of radiation in comparison to that of conventional medical CT scanners. The CBCT scanner also provides a highly adjustable field of view for clinicians. In comparison to conventional scanners, the Cone Beam CT’s simple “in chair” positioning (as opposed to a tunnel) and complete 360o imaging mechanism provides a faster and more comfortable scan environment for patients.

MAIN APPLICATIONS OF CBCT IMAGING INCLUDE:
Dental Implants: Allows for optimal planning and placement of implants and better information leading to optimal patient care.
Orthodontic: Improves treatment and diagnosis by giving a 3D perspective which is important in accurately assessing the relationship of teeth and supporting the overall interpretation of anatomy.
Impaction: Accurate 3D views of impacted molars within the alveolar bone can be produced giving the location relative to adjacent teeth as well as the proximity to vital structures such as the nerve canal, sinus walls, and cortical borders.
Air Way assessment: Precise 3D imaging can give an accurate assessment of the airways allowing for more informed decisions when considering treatment options.
TMJ: 3D images allow the specialist to view critical structures for complete TMJ analysis and diagnosis clearly showing the condyles and surrounding structures. Ear nose and throat assessment: ideal for the imaging of the para-sinuses, airways, petrous temporal bone, skull vault and base.
Full skull imaging: ideal for the assessment of craniofacial surgery cases, providing the option of viewing a scan of the skull in its entirety.
Maxillofacial: ideal for the imaging of the skull, jaws, teeth and para-nasal sinuses giving a complete and accurate assessment for all varieties of maxillofacial cases.
