She has worked as a physiotherapist in 4 of the biggest burn and plastics services in the UK, working as the lead physiotherapist in 3 of those units. She is currently working at the Chelsea and Westminster Foundation NHS Trust in burns, plastics and scar management.
RuthAnn’s passion for burns and scars treatment has taken her extensively to learn, teach and work around the world; she has gained experience from some of the leading burn services in the world through internships at The Shriners, Galveston, Harborview, Seattle and Le Ster Centre for Rehabilitation of Burn Injuries in Lamalou France.
RuthAnn also has significant experience and interest in training and education in burns care. She is the Director of Rehabilitation for Interburns, delivering international courses. She is very involved with Scar Academy, running courses in the UK on advanced scar management and scar outcome measures. She is a trainer in burns and soft tissue injury for the UK International Trauma and Emergency Register. She is a key contributor to the MSc in Burns Care, Queen Mary University London. She is Managing Editor of the newly launched medical journal Scars, burns and Healing. She is a Consultant with the Katie Piper Foundation progressing burn rehabilitation and investigating emerging non-surgical treatments for scar management.
RuthAnn has an MSc in Health Service Management from the University of London (UCL) and further qualifications in international health consultancy. Her main interest is the prevention and treatment of scar, burn rehabilitation and broad, emerging and innovative strategies to improve outcomes for people with scars.
